Fatty Liver (NAFLD)

Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team ยท Last updated May 2026

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) occurs when excess fat accumulates in liver cells of people who drink little or no alcohol. Left unmanaged it can progress to inflammation (NASH), fibrosis, and cirrhosis.

When to see a doctor

See a doctor if you have persistent fatigue or upper-right abdominal discomfort, if imaging or blood tests confirm NAFLD, if liver enzymes are elevated on repeat testing, or if you have diabetes or metabolic syndrome alongside liver findings.
