Back Pain & Muscle Tension
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
Back pain and muscle tension are among the most common musculoskeletal complaints, ranging from acute strain and postural tightness to chronic low back pain lasting more than three months. Causes include muscle overuse, poor posture, sedentary habits, disc problems, and stress-related tension. Most episodes are self-limiting, but recurrence is common.
Seek prompt medical evaluation if back pain is severe or worsening, follows an injury or fall, radiates down one or both legs with numbness or tingling (possible nerve involvement), is accompanied by weakness in the legs, or if you notice any changes in bladder or bowel control - these can signal a serious neurological emergency. Also see a doctor if pain is constant at night, is accompanied by unexplained weight loss or fever, or does not improve after 4 to 6 weeks of self-care.
