Eczema & Atopic Dermatitis

Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition causing dry, itchy, and inflamed skin, often beginning in childhood. It involves a disrupted skin barrier and immune dysregulation, and tends to flare and remit over time.

When to see a doctor

See a doctor if eczema covers large areas of the body, becomes infected (oozing, crusting, fever), does not respond to over-the-counter treatments within 2-3 weeks, or significantly disrupts sleep and daily life.
