Colloidal Oatmeal (Topical)
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
How to use
Apply a 1% colloidal oatmeal cream or lotion to affected skin 2-3 times daily, especially immediately after bathing while skin is still slightly damp. For oatmeal baths, add 1 cup of finely ground colloidal oatmeal to lukewarm (not hot) bathwater and soak for 10-15 minutes. Pat skin dry gently - do not rub.
How it works
Colloidal oatmeal contains avenanthramides, beta-glucan, and lipids that restore the skin barrier, reduce transepidermal water loss, and suppress inflammatory cytokine release. It also has mild antihistamine properties that reduce itch signaling.
