Aloe Vera Juice (Inner Leaf)

Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026

Panahi et al. pilot RCT (n=79, 4 weeks) found aloe vera syrup reduced frequency of all 8 assessed GERD symptoms with no adverse events requiring withdrawal, comparing favorably to omeprazole and ranitidine. PMID 26742306.$12-$22 per 32 oz bottle

How to use

Drink 30-60 mL (2-4 tablespoons) of inner-leaf aloe vera juice 20-30 minutes before meals, 1-2 times daily. Always use products labeled "inner leaf" or "decolorized" to ensure anthraquinone laxative compounds (aloin) have been removed.

How it works

Aloe vera polysaccharides coat and soothe the esophageal and gastric mucosa, reducing irritation from acid contact. Aloe also has anti-inflammatory properties that may reduce esophageal inflammation caused by repeated acid exposure.

Where to buy

George's Always Active Aloe Vera Juice (Whole Foods, Amazon); Lily of the Desert Inner Fillet Aloe Vera Juice (Natural Grocers, iHerb); Lakewood Organic Pure Aloe Juice (Sprouts, Amazon).

Typical cost: $12-$22 per 32 oz bottle

Safety notes

Use only inner-leaf or decolorized/purified aloe juice - whole-leaf products containing aloin are a stimulant laxative and potentially carcinogenic with long-term use. Do not use in pregnancy. May lower blood sugar - monitor if diabetic. May interact with diuretics (increases potassium loss).
