Ashwagandha (KSM-66 Extract)

Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026

A 2012 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial found 300 mg KSM-66 twice daily significantly reduced serum cortisol and perceived stress scores versus placebo over 8 weeks.$20-$40 per month

How to use

Take 300-600 mg of a standardized root extract (KSM-66 or Sensoril) daily, ideally with food. Start at 300 mg in the morning and assess tolerance before adding an evening dose.

How it works

Withanolides in ashwagandha modulate glucocorticoid receptor sensitivity and blunt hypothalamic CRH output, reducing ACTH-driven cortisol production and helping restore a normal diurnal cortisol curve.

Where to buy

Jarrow Formulas, Nootropics Depot, Pure Encapsulations, Thorne (all available on Amazon or brand websites).

Typical cost: $20-$40 per month

Safety notes

Avoid during pregnancy. May interact with thyroid medications and immunosuppressants. Rare cases of liver injury reported at high doses - do not exceed 600 mg/day. Discontinue 2 weeks before surgery.
