Gut Microbiome Diversity

The gut microbiome is the community of trillions of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms living in your digestive tract. Higher microbial diversity - meaning more distinct species present in healthy proportions - is consistently associated with better immune function, more stable metabolism, and lower risk of chronic disease. Modern diets high in ultra-processed foods and low in plant variety are a primary driver of declining microbiome diversity in industrialized populations.
