Zinc Supplementation
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
How to use
Take 25-45 mg elemental zinc daily with food. Zinc picolinate or zinc glycinate forms are better absorbed than zinc oxide.
How it works
Zinc is an essential cofactor for the enzymes involved in testosterone biosynthesis in Leydig cells and for 5-alpha reductase activity. Deficiency directly suppresses luteinizing hormone release and reduces testicular testosterone output.
Where to buy
Pharmacies, health food stores, Amazon - zinc picolinate or zinc glycinate are preferred forms.
Typical cost: $8-$18 per month
Safety notes
Do not exceed 40 mg elemental zinc per day long-term without medical supervision - excess zinc depletes copper and can cause nausea. Take with food to reduce stomach upset. Take separately from iron supplements.
