Willow Bark Extract
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
How to use
Take a standardised willow bark extract providing 120-240 mg salicin per day, split into two doses with food. Use for no longer than 4-6 weeks continuously.
How it works
Salicin is converted by gut bacteria and liver metabolism to salicylic acid, which inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and reduces inflammation in a mechanism similar to aspirin but with slower onset.
Where to buy
Common brands include Nature's Way and Solaray. Health food stores and online. Look for products standardised to salicin content (15% minimum).
Typical cost: $12-$28 per month
Safety notes
Avoid if allergic to aspirin or salicylates. Not for use in children (Reye's syndrome risk), pregnancy, or with anticoagulants. May cause stomach upset. Avoid with NSAIDs.
