Spearmint Tea
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
How to use
Steep one spearmint tea bag or 1 tsp dried spearmint leaves in 240 ml of boiling water for 5-7 minutes. Drink two cups daily, ideally morning and evening. Allow at least 6-8 weeks before evaluating results, as androgen-driven sebum cycles are slow to shift.
How it works
Spearmint contains rosmarinic acid and other phenolics that suppress 5-alpha-reductase activity and reduce circulating free testosterone, thereby decreasing androgen-driven sebum production.
Where to buy
Grocery stores, health food stores, and online (look for pure spearmint, not peppermint blends). Brands such as Celestial Seasonings, Twinings, and Frontier Co-op are widely available.
Typical cost: $5-12/month
Safety notes
Avoid in pregnancy - spearmint has historically been used as an emmenagogue. May lower testosterone; consult a physician before use if you have a hormone-sensitive condition or are on hormone therapy. Large amounts may interact with medications metabolized by CYP enzymes. Not a substitute for prescribed anti-androgen therapy.
