Saw Palmetto
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
How to use
Take 320 mg standardized saw palmetto extract (liposterolic extract, 85-95% fatty acids) once daily with food. Allow 3-6 months to assess results. Topical serums containing saw palmetto can be used alongside oral supplementation.
How it works
Blocks 5-alpha reductase type I and II, reducing conversion of testosterone to DHT - the primary androgen responsible for miniaturizing hair follicles in androgenic alopecia. Also has anti-inflammatory properties.
Where to buy
Health food stores, pharmacies, Amazon, iHerb. Brands: Nature's Way, Jarrow, Thorne. Choose lipid/fat extract, not plain berry powder.
Typical cost: $15-30/month
Safety notes
May interact with blood thinners and hormone therapies. Not for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Men with prostate concerns should consult a doctor before use. Rare reports of liver toxicity at high doses.
