Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
How to use
Take 400 mg riboflavin once daily with a meal. Note that urine will turn bright yellow - this is harmless. Allow 2-3 months to see results as mitochondrial function improves gradually.
How it works
Riboflavin is a key cofactor in mitochondrial energy production. Migraine is linked to impaired mitochondrial metabolism in neurons; high-dose B2 restores mitochondrial efficiency and reduces the energetic deficit thought to trigger cortical spreading depression.
Where to buy
Pharmacies, health food stores, Amazon - sold as standalone riboflavin 400 mg or in migraine-specific B-complex formulas.
Typical cost: $10-$20 for a 3-month supply
Safety notes
Very safe and well-tolerated at 400 mg. Bright yellow-orange urine is expected and harmless. Not a substitute for acute migraine treatment. Extremely high doses over 400 mg offer no additional benefit.
