Quercetin
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
How to use
Take 500 mg of quercetin supplement once daily with food. Look for products with added bromelain or vitamin C to enhance absorption, as quercetin has low bioavailability on its own.
How it works
Quercetin inhibits xanthine oxidoreductase, the enzyme responsible for the final step in uric acid production, in a mechanism similar to the prescription drug allopurinol. It also has anti-inflammatory effects that may blunt the joint inflammation triggered by urate crystals.
Where to buy
Health food stores and Amazon - NOW Foods Quercetin with Bromelain, Jarrow Formulas Quercetin, or Thorne Research Quercetin Phytosome for better absorption.
Typical cost: $15-$30 per month
Safety notes
Generally well-tolerated. May interact with certain antibiotics (quinolones) and blood thinners. Avoid high doses during pregnancy. Human clinical trials are limited - most strong evidence is from animal and in vitro studies.
