Pumpkin Seed Extract
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
How to use
Take 500 mg of standardized pumpkin seed extract twice daily, or eat 1-2 tablespoons of raw shelled pumpkin seeds daily. A 24-month study showed sustained benefit without loss of sexual function.
How it works
Pumpkin seeds are rich in delta-7-sterols and zinc, which inhibit 5-alpha-reductase activity and reduce DHT-driven prostate cell proliferation. The oil also reduces testosterone-induced prostate enlargement in animal models.
Where to buy
Health food stores for standardized capsules (Swanson, Jarrow, Natrol); raw pumpkin seeds available at grocery stores and bulk food retailers
Typical cost: $10-$25 per month for capsules; $5-$8 per month for seeds
Safety notes
Well tolerated with very few reported side effects. Does not appear to impair sexual function. Not recommended as sole therapy for severe obstructive symptoms.
