Omega-3 Fish Oil
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
How to use
Take 2,000-4,000 mg of combined EPA and DHA daily with food. Choose a high-quality supplement with at least 60% EPA/DHA content. Take with the largest meal of the day to improve absorption and reduce fishy aftertaste.
How it works
EPA and DHA activate nuclear receptors (PPAR-alpha) that regulate fat metabolism, reducing VLDL triglyceride production in the liver. They also reduce systemic inflammation via conversion to resolvins and protectins, which underpins metabolic syndrome progression.
Where to buy
Pharmacies, Costco, Amazon, Nordic Naturals, Carlson Labs, Life Extension
Typical cost: $20-$50 per month
Safety notes
High doses may increase LDL cholesterol in some individuals. Can thin blood - use caution with anticoagulants (warfarin, aspirin). May cause fishy burps, nausea, or loose stools. Choose molecularly distilled brands to minimize mercury exposure.
