Moisturize Within 3 Minutes of Bathing
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
How to use
Shower in lukewarm (not hot) water for no more than 10 minutes. Pat skin gently - leave it slightly damp. Apply a cream-based moisturizer (not thin lotion) within 3 minutes.
How it works
Hot water strips natural skin oils. Applying moisturizer to damp skin traps water before it evaporates. Creams and ointments seal the barrier far more effectively than thin lotions.
Where to buy
Pharmacies. Dermatologist-recommended: CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, Eucerin, or Vanicream.
Typical cost: $8-20
Safety notes
Avoid products with alcohol, fragrance, or retinoids on dry skin - these worsen barrier damage. Thicker creams can clog pores on acne-prone facial skin for some people.
