Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026

Moderate evidence$5-25

How to use

Mix 1-2 tbsp raw honey into warm (not boiling) water or herbal tea. Sip slowly to coat the throat. Take 2-3 times daily.

How it works

Honey coats and soothes irritated throat tissue, has mild antibacterial properties, and suppresses cough reflex. One RCT found honey as effective as dextromethorphan for nighttime cough.

Where to buy

Any grocery store. Raw or Manuka honey is more potent than processed versions.

Typical cost: $5-25

Safety notes

Never give honey to children under 1 year - risk of infant botulism. Do not add to boiling liquid (destroys beneficial compounds).
