Green Coffee Bean Extract
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
How to use
Take 400-800 mg of standardized green coffee bean extract (standardized to at least 45-50% chlorogenic acid) daily in divided doses before meals. Do not exceed 800 mg per day.
How it works
Chlorogenic acids in unroasted green coffee beans may slow glucose absorption in the gut, reduce hepatic glucose production, and modestly increase fat metabolism. Roasting destroys most chlorogenic acid content, which is why green (unroasted) beans are used.
Where to buy
Health food stores and online retailers. Look for products standardized to at least 45% chlorogenic acid content. Third-party testing (NSF, Informed Sport) is recommended.
Typical cost: $15-$30 per month.
Safety notes
Green coffee bean extract contains caffeine - expect roughly 20-50 mg per serving depending on the product. Avoid if sensitive to caffeine or if taking stimulant medications. May raise blood pressure. Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The overall evidence base is very small and more trials are needed before this can be recommended with confidence.
