Bioavailable Curcumin

Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026

A 2018 RCT by Small et al. in the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry found that bioavailable curcumin (Theracurmin, 90 mg twice daily) significantly improved memory and attention in non-demented adults over 18 months.$30-$60/month

How to use

Take 80-200 mg of highly bioavailable curcumin (look for Theracurmin, Longvida, or BCM-95 formulations) daily with meals containing fat. Look for Theracurmin by Integrative Therapeutics or Doctor's Best. Standard turmeric powder has very low bioavailability.

How it works

Curcumin is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that crosses the blood-brain barrier (in bioavailable forms). It inhibits NF-kB inflammatory pathways, reduces amyloid plaque formation, chelates heavy metals, and boosts BDNF.

Where to buy

Health food stores and online. Look specifically for Theracurmin, Longvida, or BCM-95 formulations. Avoid generic turmeric capsules for cognitive purposes.

Typical cost: $30-$60/month

Safety notes

May increase bleeding risk at high doses - use caution with blood thinners. Can interact with certain chemotherapy drugs. May cause gastrointestinal discomfort. Not recommended at therapeutic doses during pregnancy.
