Colloidal Oatmeal Cream or Bath

Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026

Strong evidence$10-25

How to use

Bath: add 1 cup colloidal oatmeal to lukewarm (not hot) water, soak 10-15 min, pat dry gently, apply moisturizer immediately. Cream: apply colloidal oatmeal lotion directly to affected skin 2-3 times daily.

How it works

FDA-approved as a skin protectant. Avenanthramides and beta-glucan in oatmeal reduce inflammation, repair the skin barrier, and relieve itch through antihistamine-like activity.

Where to buy

Pharmacies. Aveeno Eczema Therapy, CeraVe Itch Relief, or bulk colloidal oatmeal for baths.

Typical cost: $10-25

Safety notes

Use lukewarm water only - heat worsens eczema. Pat dry rather than rubbing. Apply moisturizer within 3 minutes of the bath to lock in moisture.
