Celery Seed Extract
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
How to use
Take 450-600 mg standardized celery seed extract twice daily with meals. Alternatively, celery seed tea (1 teaspoon of seeds steeped 10 minutes) can be consumed 2-3 times daily.
How it works
Celery seeds contain 3nB (3-n-butylphthalide) and other phthalides that inhibit xanthine oxidase activity, reducing uric acid production. The seeds also have diuretic properties that increase renal urate excretion.
Where to buy
Health food stores or Amazon - Swanson Celery Seed Extract, Solaray Celery Seed, or bulk celery seeds from any spice retailer.
Typical cost: $10-$20 per month
Safety notes
May increase sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid during pregnancy (uterine stimulant effect). Can interact with diuretic medications and thyroid drugs. Human clinical trial evidence is sparse - most research is in animal models or in vitro.
