Ashwagandha (KSM-66)
Reviewed by the Nimbera editorial team · Last updated May 2026
How to use
Take 300-600 mg of KSM-66 or Sensoril ashwagandha root extract daily, divided into one or two doses. Can be taken with meals to reduce the chance of stomach upset. Allow 4-8 weeks of consistent use for meaningful effects. Cycle off for 1-2 months after 3 months of continuous use.
How it works
Ashwagandha's withanolides act as adaptogens, modulating the HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis to blunt excess cortisol secretion during chronic stress. It also has GABA-mimetic activity and may downregulate stress-responsive proteins in the brain's limbic system.
Where to buy
KSM-66 Ashwagandha by Jarrow Formulas (Amazon, iHerb), Thorne Botanicals Ashwagandha (Thorne.com, Amazon), Gaia Herbs Ashwagandha Root (Whole Foods, Amazon).
Typical cost: $15-$35 for a 60-90 capsule bottle (1-3 month supply depending on dose).
